Whether we are actively pursuing new goals or simply living life in flow, we are sometimes presented opportunities and other times unexpected challenges. How do you decide when to act or when to not?

The first question you might ask is 'do i Have to do this'? Is it an obligation of a kind, either to yourself or to others or to an idea or life philosophy?

The next question might be 'Do I want to do this'? This doesn't mean the challenge is easy, but perhaps the outcome of not acting is less desirable.

Place yourself in an imaginary place in the future and look back to this present and ask, is this going to be something I'm glad I did, even if it was difficult?

There is something called Risk vs. reward. What happens if I am successful vs unseccessful and what are the potential outcomes of either. Many people consider the tangible or financial as the basis for calculating possibility within change, but there are also soul, emotion, fun, play and other things to consider. If you like being impulsive and enjoy that feeling just be aware that impusivity is generally not something I would advocate in the arena of finance if it means risking survival, but even there ultimately this is your life to live.

We are resistant to change because change means uncertainty and uncertainty is potentially risky, but for the most part I believe that the actions of our lives that tend to be most meaningful are those in which we looked at uncertainty and decided to accept the challenge. By owning change, not recklessly but with power, wisdom and self-awareness, we grow and one of the most if not the most rewarding things you can do for yourself is give yourself opportunities to grow.

We make decisions every day that may effect the outcome of our lives so if challenges and opportunities present themselves, be thoughtful, be decisive and in the event that things don't go as you might have hoped, be forgiving and remind yourself that you are brave for taking a chance and that at the end of the day it is often the challenges we don't accept that leave us wishing we had given it a go. That is Just the nature of being Human.
